I have master’s degrees in both management and civil engineering from North Carolina State University. The engineering research from my master's thesis at NC State on the impacts on traffic signal operations of pedestrians and bicycles was incorporated in the 2000 U.S. Highway Capacity Manual.

I have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, with a minor in political science, from Pennsylvania State University. I was a University Scholar, as well as a Lion Ambassador, at Penn State.
